Scrivelsby Folly
The Doll's House
Scrivelsby Folly is a spectacularly elegant Georgian House in 1/12th scale
which was commissioned by Frances Winch in memory of her aunt, Ruth Alston.
It contains all the elements of a country house, main block, ballroom extension,
stable block and garden. From the basement kitchens and gun rooms to the attic
servants bedrooms it is complete in every detail even down to pets, food and
several generations of collecting – family portraits, furniture and
works of art.
The interiors designed by Mrs Winch are in her inimitable style, Georgian in
detail but with vivid and exciting colour schemes – a veritable world of
interiors in miniature.
The house was made by Paul Wells and is accurate in minute detail – each
roof tile an individual piece and every brick accurately delineated. The trompe
l’oeil in the house was expertly painted by Paola Cumiskey and the Feather
Bedroom was one of the last works of the late Peter Coke.
When Scrivelsby Folly was featured in Country Life magazine in Winter 2007 many
people were deceived into thinking the house an historic real place so convincing
is its ambience and architecture.
